Yes, the economy is in the hole. Yes, companies everywhere
are cutting back. Yes, customers are spending less.
And yet, despite all those factors, now is a great time
to invest in improving your web presence!
Consider:
• Your Competition. Many of your competitors have
pulled the covers over their heads, hoping that this recession
is just a nightmare. Why not be the one taking action?
Since fewer companies are spending money on marketing,
with a little investment, you can be the one to stand out
from the crowd!
• Your Customers. And don’t forget – your
customers still need what you’re selling. They may
be counting their pennies more carefully, but life does
go on. Determine what people really need right now, and
focus on those products and services. (That being said,
be sure to give people a reason to purchase from you now,
i.e., special sales, web-based offers, etc. Make it easy
for them to find what they’re looking for online,
easy to purchase what they want, and easy to get the answers
and service they need.)
Developing your web site is usually, dollar-for-dollar,
less expensive than other initiatives – and the returns
can be swift and extraordinary. While it may seem counterintuitive
to be out there spending money while everyone is cutting
back, there is actually no better opportunity to reach
out to your customer base. If you can push past the fear,
you can gain market share.
After all, if you usually have four competitors jockeying
for position but three of them are out of the picture due
to cut backs, bankruptcy, fear, diminished marketing, etc.,
then you are now only competing with one other company
for market share. That increases your opportunities significantly!
So take the time and invest the money to aggressively
monetize your website. This can include:
- Search engine optimization
- Internet marketing
- E-commerce
- Quote generators
- Online product information
- Automated customer
service
- Online customer account
areas
Your investment will produce increased revenue in the
short-term, and a significantly stronger market position
in the long-term.
And when your competitors do finally pull their heads
out from under the covers, they’ll discover that
they slept through one of the best business opportunities
of their lives!
