Article: Your 24/7
Sales Force
By Julie Friedman Bacchini
Your
web site should be your 24/7 sales force – it
is there around the clock to generate leads, close sales,
and create a loyal customer base.
But simply “having a web site” does not guarantee
those fantastic business benefits. Here’s a quick
checklist to find out whether your site is doing its job:
- You
put up the site in the year 2000 and haven’t
touched it since.
- You have outdated information on your
web site.
- Your most recent news items, blog entries,
and/or newsletters are from more than six months ago.
- You offer products and services that appear nowhere
on your web site.
- You are embarrassed to send business associates or
potential clients to your web site.
- You don’t have a call to action on your web site.
- Your competitors’ web sites are flashier, snazzier,
and far more interesting than your own.
If you answered “yes” to
any of the above questions, it is time for a professional
web site upgrade.
The fact is, some 80% of all your potential customers
will visit your web site as part of their decision-making
process. If they are turned off – by poor graphics,
outdated information, confusing navigation, ill-written
content, or anything else – they will NEVER come
back. And you will never know how many sales you have lost.
For that reason, having an old, broken, dated, static
web site is WORSE than having a single-page placeholder
that is clean, professional, and up-to-date. The old maxim
holds true today: “You never have a second chance
to make a first impression.” But the best option,
of course, is having a full and complete web site with
visual appeal, current content, powerful benefits, lively
interaction, and a strong call to action.
How does your web site stack up?
